Iowa RB Greene to return Saturday (AP)

Iowa running back Shonn Greene is expected to play Saturday when the Hawkeyes face Michigan State. Greene suffered a head injury early in the fourth quarter of last week’s 22-17 loss against Northwestern and did not return. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says Greene was cleared to practice on Tuesday. Greene ranks sixth in the nation with 133 yards rushing per game.

Lee, Lidge win comeback player awards (AP)

Pitchers Cliff Lee of the Cleveland Indians and Brad Lidge of the Philadelphia Phillies were honored Tuesday as baseball’s Comeback Players of the Year. Lee went 22-3 with an American League-leading 2.54 ERA. The previous season, he was 5-8 with a 6.29 ERA and was demoted to the minor leagues. “I’ve never seen a season like that,” Indians manager Eric Wedge said.

Menard leaving DEI for Yates Racing (AP)

The person requested anonymity because Menard had yet to make his announcement.

Paul Menard is heading to Yates Racing at the end of the season in a switch certain to hurt Dale Earnhardt Inc. DEI is losing both a driver and a sponsor at a time when a bleak economic outlook has made funding difficult.

Penguins D Gonchar out 4 to 6 months (AP)

Penguins defenseman Sergei Gonchar will have arthroscopic surgery on his dislocated left shoulder Thursday and miss four to six months of the upcoming season. Gonchar has cartilage and ligament damage, the team said Tuesday. He was hurt during Pittsburgh’s preseason opener against Tampa Bay Sept. 20 and had hoped to avoid surgery.
