Left fielder Pat Burrell led the procession, riding a horse-drawn carriage and pumping his fists.

Tar Heels F Hansbrough out indefinitely (AP)

The father of reigning national player of the year Tyler Hansbrough said Friday it’s unclear if the North Carolina star will miss any regular-season games because of a leg injury. Gene Hansbrough told The Associated Press his son had felt pain in his right shin off and on for a few weeks before going to the team’s medical staff.

Seahawks’ Mora not interested in UW (AP)

Seahawks assistant coach Jim Mora said Friday he’s not interested in the Washington coaching position. “I am not a candidate for the University of Washington coaching vacancy,” Mora said in a written statement handed out by a Seahawks spokesman. Mora is a former Washington player who began his coaching career there as a graduate assistant under Don James in 1984.

Packers sign QB Rodgers through 2014 (AP)

The Green Bay Packers made a long-term commitment to quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Friday, signing the first-year starter to a contract extension through 2014. The team announced the deal after practice Friday afternoon, when Rodgers signed the paperwork. Terms were not disclosed. “It means a lot,” Rodgers said.

UNC first unanimous preseason No. 1 (AP)

Cowboys’ Witten questionable vs. Giants (AP)

Cowboys tight end Jason Witten still hasn’t been ruled out of playing with a broken rib against the New York Giants, even after missing practice again Friday. Witten hasn’t practiced this week with the Cowboys, but the team listed him as questionable for Sunday’s game. The four-time Pro Bowl tight end, hurt in last week’s victory over Tampa Bay, said he hopes to play.

Caps’ Ovechkin to miss Saturday’s game (AP)

Alex Ovechkin will miss the Washington Capitals’ game at the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, but he is expected to return to the team at the start of next week. The NHL’s reigning MVP and its leading scorer last season is visiting his ailing grandfather in Russia. Ovechkin also sat out Tuesday’s game, ending his consecutive games streak at 203.

Status of Penguins’ Crosby unclear (AP)

Sidney Crosby has an undisclosed injury, and it’s unclear if the Pittsburgh Penguins star will be able to play Saturday night against St. Louis. Crosby left Thursday night’s game at Phoenix with five minutes left in the second period. After the game, a 4-1 loss by the Penguins, he would only say he had “some discomfort.” Penguins spokesman Frank Buonomo would not not elaborate on the injury Friday.

Injured Nadal, Federer pull out in Paris (AP)

Top-ranked Rafael Nadal retired with a knee injury after losing the first set 6-1 against Nikolay Davydenko in the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters on Friday, just hours after Roger Federer pulled out because of a sore back. Nadal received massage treatment on his right thigh at 4-1 down and was unable to start the second set.

Bills’ Reed, Schobel, Butler out Sunday (AP)

The Bills will be without three starters when they host the New York Jets in an AFC East matchup Sunday. Receiver Josh Reed, defensive end Aaron Schobel and right guard Brad Butler are all out with injuries for Buffalo (5-2). Reed hurt his right ankle and Achilles’ tendon in the loss at Miami this past weekend.
