John Maine shut down Florida again before becoming the latest Mets player sidelined by sickness or injury, and New York held off the Marlins 3-2 on Sunday to cap a highly successful month. David Wright made a diving grab to start a rally-killing double play, and the Mets completed a 5-1 homestand to finish 19-9 in May.

Rafael Nadal’s unbeaten run at the French Open is over. The four-time defending champion lost to Robin Soderling of Sweden 6-2, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 7-6 (2) Sunday in the fourth round, ending his record 31-match winning streak at Roland Garros. Soderling, seeded 23rd at this year’s tournament, ran Nadal ragged on center court with his hard serve and booming forehand.

Indians place All-Star OF Sizemore on DL (AP)

The Indians have placed All-Star outfielder Grady Sizemore on the 15-day disabled list with left elbow inflammation and called up utilityman Chris Gimenez from Triple-A Columbus. The Indians announced the moves on Sunday before their home game against the New York Yankees. Sizemore had struggled at the plate and not played much in the field recently because of the injury.

The innings passed by in bunches, and so did the hours. When it was finally over, Texas walked off the field victorious — and exhausted — after beating Boston College 3-2 in 25 innings on Saturday night in the longest game in NCAA history. “Every inning, we felt like we had a chance to win it,” Texas second baseman Travis Tucker said.

Ryan Howard set a Philadelphia Phillies record with his eighth career grand slam — and did it in emphatic fashion. With $12.7 million in career earnings on the PGA Tour, Tim Clark has the dubious distinction of winning the most money without winning an event. Now he’s got a great chance to let someone else carry that burden. Clark shot a 4-under 66 on Saturday in the third round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational to take a two-stroke lead into the final round.
