Judge rejects both bids to buy Coyotes (AP)

A bankruptcy judge has rejected both bids to buy the Phoenix Coyotes. Judge Redfield T. Baum turned down the offers of Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie and the NHL in a 31-page ruling on Wednesday. Balsillie's bid was rejected outright, but the judge left the door open for the NHL to buy the team if it amends its offer in order to treat Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes and Wayne Gretzky more fairly.

Anderson to start at QB for Browns (AP)

Two years ago, the Cleveland Browns turned their woeful offense over to Derek Anderson and won 10 games. Eric Mangini can only hope it happens again. With his first season in Cleveland already unraveling, Mangini benched Brady Quinn in favor of Anderson, who rode a similar opportunity in 2007 to an appearance in the Pro Bowl.

The International Olympic Committee is familiar with tough decisions. It gambled by giving the games to Beijing and even turned down New York after 9/11. Which means committee members will spend the next two days feeling like the most popular people on the planet.

Michael Vick is back with Nike more than two years after the company severed ties over the quarterback's involvement in a dogfighting ring. The managing director of the agency that represents Vick announced the deal Wednesday while participating on a panel at the Sports Sponsorship Symposium. The NHL could claim a partial victory on Wednesday after a U.S. bankruptcy judge rejected bids by the league and Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie to purchase the Phoenix Coyotes. Judge Redfield T. Baum rejected outright Balsillie's offer to purchase the team and move it to Hamilton, Ontario, which the NHL had vehemently opposed.

Big East-Big 12 in Yankee Stadium bowl (AP)

The Big East and Big 12 NCAA college football conferences and the New York Yankees announced on Wednesday that they have agreed to a four-year deal to play the first bowl in the Bronx since 1962.

The teams are set, one from the Big East, one from the Big 12. The site: The new $1.5 billion Yankee Stadium. Now all the new bowl game in the Bronx needs is a name before its debut in December 2010. "If you're looking for suggestions, maybe we should call it the Jeter Bowl," Bronx Borough president Ruben Diaz Jr.
