David Beckham wanted so much to become the first player to appear in four World Cups for England. He was close before tearing his left Achilles’ tendon Sunday while playing for AC Milan, an injury that will cause him to miss soccer’s premier tournament and most if not all of the Los Angeles Galaxy’s season.

An injury hurts as much as a loss in the days before the brackets are drawn up for March Madness. Syracuse endured both and will have to rack up some major airplane time to make a run to the Final Four. LaDainian Tomlinson is bolting for the Big Apple. Tomlinson’s agent, Tom Condon, said Sunday that the New York Jets signed the former Chargers running back to a two-year contract. The Jets confirmed that they have agreed to a deal, adding the aging star to the NFL’s top-ranked rushing offense last season.

His international career for England is all but over. It remains to be seen how much he’ll have left for the Galaxy and Major League Soccer.

LaDainian Tomlinson is bolting for the Big Apple. The New York Jets signed the former Chargers running back to a two-year contract Sunday, adding an aging star to an offense that ranked No. 1 in rushing last season. Tomlinson’s agent, Tom Condon, confirmed the deal Sunday night. “He wanted to go to a team that he thought had a chance to compete for the championship,” Condon told the AP.

Evan Turner didn’t need any late-game heroics on Sunday. When it appeared there was nothing more he could do to make his Big Ten tournament performance better, the junior had 31 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 5 Ohio State over Minnesota 90-61 on Sunday in the championship game. Turner hit a 37-foot shot at the buzzer to beat Michigan in the quarterfinals, then scored 12 of his 31 points…

David Beckham has hobbled off with an apparent left leg injury in the closing minutes of AC Milan’s game with Chievo Verona. Visibly in pain, Beckham went to the sideline for medical attention, leaving Milan with 10 men since all three substitutes had already been used. Replays on Sunday showed that Beckham appeared to injure his left leg or foot without coming into contact with anyone else.
